Ella* in Berlin

Gasoline poured over living skin
set ablaze in an act of desperation
as silent screams
speak of endless discrimination
that no-one wanted to see
whilst colleagues pass on nudes
and laugh about her name

Silently, in front of the warehouse
in an ultimate political act
Not there in Iran,
not there in Ukraine
not there somewhere far away
but right here in Europe
right here, in fucking Berlin

In a so-called tolerant society
that reeks of intolerance
that reeks of indifference
paired with racism and crude jokes

How many more?
How much longer?
How many Ella*s do we need,
until trans lives are taken serious?

Our deaths are always political
and so are our lives
Lives meant to be lived
and not suffered
Lived in beauty
with love and joy and happiness

Rest in Power,
Rest in Peace!
